Turning towards the congregation after Salaah

Q: Should the Imaam turn towards his right or left facing the muqtadis for making duaa only for Fajr and Asr Salaah?

 

A: Yes. Those Salaahs after which there are sunnats, the sunnah method is that one should not delay in performing one's sunnats after the fardh. Instead one should stand up and complete one's sunnats. However after fajr and asr since there are no sunnats, the Imaam will turn towards the congregation or he will sit facing the right or left and engage in tasbihaat and dua.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

وعقب الفرض إن لم يكن بعده نافلة يستقبل ( الناس ) إن شاء إن لم يكن في مقابلة مصل لما في الصحيحين كان النبي صلى الله عليه و سلم إذا صلى أقبل علينا بوجهه وإن شاء الإمام انحرف عن يساره وجعل القبلة عن يمينه وإن شاء انحرف عن يمينه وجعل القبلة عن يساره وهذا أولى لما في مسلم كنا إذا صلينا خلف رسول الله أحببنا أن نكون عن يمينه حتى يقبل علينا بوجهه وإن شاء ذهب لحوائجه قال تعالى فإذا قضيت الصلاة فانتشروا في الأرض وابتغوا من فضل الله والأمر للإباحة (مراقي الفلاح ص 314)
