Dawah Team Haya Posted November 27, 2014 Dawah Team Report Share Posted November 27, 2014 Is it against modesty for a sister to use her real name on internet?
ummtaalib
I cannot find an answer to your question on any of the Q/A sites or anywhere else. Perhaps its best to ask a scholar because I would just be giving you my own opinion based on a couple of things I've read or heard in speeches.

Also, the opinion of other sisters... Come on sisters! Don't be soooo lazy :) My question is, is it in conflict with the natural haya within us( i.e. sisters) to use our real name? OR do you avoid using your real for security purposes? If a sister uses her real name, does it mean she has less haya?
ummtaalib
hmmm security purposes...that would go for even the males I once read (or heard in a speech) that The Qur'an does not mention the names of any woman except Maryam AS, the mother of 'Eesa AS. The names of other women are alluded to and we learn the names from the hadith.....sooo if we can get an answer to this from an authentic source then we'll have our answer

But aapi you still haven't told me what you as a sister feel. What are your personal feelings?
MUSLIM WOMAN
for security purpose , i prefer not to use real name . Specially those who use social media , post real name with photographs , i find it too risky.

ummtaalib
I think Haya wants us to mention if it would against haya (modesty) to use one's real name I think it would be.
Dawah Team Haya Posted August 1, 2016 Author Dawah Team Report Share Posted August 1, 2016 (edited) I think Haya wants us to mention if it would against haya (modesty) to use one's real name I think it would be. I felt the same. Haya is a feeling when you get it you know what it is. I got the feelings and I was trying to escape the feelings as I was guilty of using my name several times. I wanted to know what others feel... Many do, while there still some who don't feel the same. Anyway here's a beautiful reply by Aalimah Zakiyya: Wa alaykum assalam wr wb I deeply apologise for the delay in answer. While it is not a sin. It is just a matter of what is more preferable. It is preferable that you use a pseudoname or nickname or ur kuniyah. This was the practice of the sahaaybiyyat. Also whenever women were mentioned in the Qur'an, they were never mentioned by name. Besides maryam AS. She was only mentioned by name because the people of thebtime never took their wives names so in order to dispel the incorrect belief that Maryam AS was Allah Ta'ala's wife (al'iyazhu billah) her name was taken. And Allaah Ta'ala knows best Aalimah Zakiyya Pandor Edited August 1, 2016 by Haya
