ummtaalib
Question When completing a khatam of the Holy Quran, normally we read till Muflihun (in Surah Baqarah). Is this a Hadith or practice of the pious? Answer Sayyiduna Ubay Ibn K’ab (radiyallahu ‘anhu) reports: “When Nabi (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would read ‘Qul A’udhu bi Rabbin nas’ (Surah Nas) then he would read Surah Fatihah and Surah Baqarah till ‘Wa ulaika humul muflihun’. Rasulullah (sallalahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) would then make the du’a of completion of the Holy Quran and stand up. (Darimi; See Al Itqan fi ‘Ulumil Quran, vol. 1 pg. 158) ‘Allamah Suyuti (rahimahullah) has classified the above narration as sound (hasan) (Al Itqan fi ‘Ulumil Quran, vol. 1 pg. 158) Imam Hakim (rahimahullah) and others have also cited narrations with similar meanings in their respective books. (See Mustadrak Hakim, vol. 1 pg 568/9. ummtaalib
Dua upon the completion of the Qur'an Q: Generally we hear people mention that Duaas are accepted upon the completion of the Qur'an. Is this correct? If yes, then after which type of khatam will duaas be accepted? When one completes the Qur'an individually or when the khatam takes place in a madrasa jalsa? A: Duas are answered after any khatam. Whether the khatam is done individually or in taraweeh salaah or with the completion of a student’s hifz. Whichever way the completion has taken place duas are answered.
