When Should A Masbooq Stand Up To Complete His Salaah?

Q: When should latecomers to a salaah stand up to make up for their missed rakaats? Should they stand up after the Imam has made one salam or should they wait until he has completed both salams?

 

A: They should wait until the Imaam completes both salaams.

And Allah Ta'ala (الله تعالى) knows best.

ومن أحكامه أنه لا يقوم إلى القضاء قبل التسليمتين بل ينتظر فراغ الإمام بعدهما لإحتمال سهو على الإمام فيصبر حتى يفهم أنه لا سهو عليه إذ لو كان لسجد (البحر الرائق 1/401)

قوله ( وينبغي أن يصبر الخ ) أي لا يقوم بعد التسليمة أو التسليمتين بل ينتظر فراغ الإمام بعدهما كما في الفيض والفتح والبحر (رد المحتار 1/597)

قوله : ( ثم يقوم لقضاء ما سبق به ) أتى بثم ليفيد تراخي القيام عن سلام الإمام قوله : ( واللاحق ) عطف على المسبوق أي ويسجد اللاحق بعد إتمام صلاة نفسه ولو تابعه لا يعتد به لأنه في غير محله قوله : ( بقدر ما يعلم أنه لا سهو عليه ) وذلك بتسليم الإمام الثانية على الأصح أو بعدهما بشيء قليل بناء على ما صححه في الهداية فليتأمل (حاشية الطحطاوي ص464)

وينبغي للمسبوق أن يمكث ساعة بعد سلام الإمام لجواز أن يكون على الإمام سهو هكذا في محيط السرخسي (هندية 1/128)

Its not a Hadeeth but reference from books of Fiqh. Translation for first one for you as follows because they are similar:

 

ومن أحكامه أنه لا يقوم إلى القضاء قبل التسليمتين بل ينتظر فراغ الإمام بعدهما لإحتمال سهو على الإمام فيصبر حتى يفهم أنه لا سهو عليه إذ لو كان لسجد (البحر الرائق

 

 

 

And from the injunctions (commandments) it is that he does not stand to make up for the missed (part of prayers) until the two Salams but that he waits for the Imam to complete (the prayer) and then completes the prayer (afterwards). It is because there is a chance that the Imam may have forgotten (something) so he should remain patient until it is ascertained that there is no forgetfulness for which prostration needs to be performed [bahrur-Raqaiq 1/140]
