ummtaalib
(The following are some advices that were given to some of the students going for Haj by Hadhrat Mufti Ebrahim Salejee (db), Hadhrat Moulana Ilyaas Patel (db) and other Asaatidhah of the Madrasah) Sunniforum.com Purpose and IntentionWhen embarking on such a trip make the following intentions: 1. Solely for the pleasure of Allah Ta’ala. 2. To visit the mubaarak Raudha, grave of Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). 3. To change your life and the lives of your beloved ones. General Advice1. Take along couple of suitcases of Sabar (patience). 2. Leave behind (i.e. at home) three things: I. Anger. II. Expectations & comfort. III. Excitement and panic. 3. Always maintain a smiling face. 4. Restrain your anger. Do not quarrel or fight with anyone, though it may be their fault. 5. Do not engage in gheebah at all. This will nullify the reward of all your efforts. 6. As far as possible, avoid the company of people you know without hurting their feelings. 7. Remain in the state of wudhu at all times in Makkah and Madinah. 8. Daily give sadaqah even if it is only one riyaal a day. 9. Ensure that you perform all your Nafl and Sunnah Salaah in these holy lands. Be regular with Chaast, Ishraaq, Awwaabeen and also the sunnats and Nafl Salaah before and after the Faraaidh. 10. Enquire about the times and venues of the majaalis of the Akaabir. Sit in their gatherings even if you have to leave out your other nafil ibaadah at that time. 11. Do not take any pictures of the Ka’bah shareef or the Green Dome on your cell phone. It may amount to disrespect. There are many pictures available. 12. Speak with respect to the police. Remember: “They are always right.” 13. Do not speak anything against these places or their inhabitants. 14. Wish well for everyone and have a good opinion about everyone. 15. At all times try and make this dua in your heart, “O Allah ! Protect me, correct me and guide me”. 16. Make khidmah of your companions, relatives and other Hajis as much as possible, even though it may disrupt your nafl ibaadah. 17. Instead of drinking cool drink, drink as much Zam Zam as possible. 18. Do not waste too much time in shopping. Remember the worst of places is the bazaar. 19. Instead of bringing back presents for your family and friends, bring back the fear of Allah Ta’ala from Makkah and the sunnah of Nabi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) from Madinah. 20. Read Fazaail-e-Haj thoroughly before going, as well as when you are there. This is necessary for spiritual preparation. 21. Draw up a daily programme for yourself i.e. how many paras tilaawat, zikr, munajaat e maqbul, nafl Salaah etc. you will be reciting daily. 22. On the flight engage in zikr, tilaawat, or reading of some authentic Islamic book. Do not even attempt to read the “in flight magazine.” 23. Prepare a list of duas as well as a list of people for whom you will make dua for in the Haram and other sanctified places (Do not forget to include me in your duas). 24. Recite “Sayyidul Istigfaar” at least thrice after every Salaah. 25. Before returning home from the holy lands, make lots of taubah and istigfaar. Do not ever boast about your Haj and Umrah to anyone. Makkah Mukarramah 1. Keep in mind the sanctity of the place. All the Ambiyaa, Sahaabah, Tabieen and Auliyaa frequented this place. 2. Protect your eyes from Haraam. Whatever spirituality you attain could be lost through sinful gazes. 3. Do not offend anyone in the Haram. There are always approximately 360 Auliyaa in the Haram at all times. It must not happen that the person you offend is a Wali of Allah Ta’ala. 4. Make as many Tawaaf as possible for everyone. In his old age, Hadhrat Mufti Mahmood Hasan Saheb (rahmatullahi alaihi) used to make upto 50 Tawaaf in one day. Excessive Tawaaf in Makkah is better than nafl Umrah's. 5. Try and stay in the Haram from Asr to Esha daily or at the least from Maghrib to Esha. 6. Do not fear heat or crowd to make Tawaaf. Anytime is a good time. Make Tawaaf at midday. The crowd is at its least at this time. Make at least five Tawaaf a day but try for ten. 7. Manyof our Akaabir/Ulama sit behind the hateem area. 8. Make tawaaf on behalf of all your beloved ones, Marhoomeen, etc. 9. Do not make Tawaaf downstairs in the last 2/3 days before Haj. 10. Make at least one khatam of Qur’aan in Makkah. You will receive the reward of 100 000 khatams. 11. Remember all those who did some ihsaan (good) to you and make dua for them. 12. Make dua for ilm e nubuwat and noor e nubuwat. 13. Make dua that Allah Ta’ala blesses you and your children with 5 things. Ilm, Amal, Izzat, Aafiyat, Iffat (purity). 14. Make dua first for Aakhirat then for your worldly needs. 15. The Hajr-e-Aswad has a sealing effect. It seals on you whatever frame of mind you are in. If you are determined to change your life, it will seal that on you, and if you are bent on remaining on your old ways then you will return home worse than the day you left. Madinah Munawarrah: 1. When visiting the Raudha Mubaarak, keep in mind the Hadith: “Whosoever visits my Qabr, my intercession becomes binding upon him.” 2. Take ghusl, wear your best clothes and apply Itr before going to make salaam at the Raudha Mubaarak.3. Recite 1000 time Surah Kausar before coming into Madinah Shareef. 4. Give Sadqa before going to the Raudha Mubaarak. 5. Go to the Raudha Mubaarak at least twice a day to convey salaams. Thereafter after every Salaah from wherever you are in the Haram, convey Salaams to Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). 6. After entering the Musjidun Nabawi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam), read 2 rakaats tahiyyatul Masjid, then make lots of Istigfaar and dua, thereafter proceed to confer salaam upon our Master, Sayyidinah Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). It is better to read a short salaam that you know rather than reading from a book or card etc. 7. Reciteonce"... ان الله وملائكته يصلون علي النبي "70times الصلوة و السلام عليك يارسول اللهthen readthereafter seek intercession in these words:يارسول الله اسئلك الشفاعة واتوسل بك الى الله في ان اموت مسلما على ملتك وسنتك 8. Thereafter convey the salaams of anyone who requested you to do so in these words:السلام عليك يارسول الله من جميع من اوصاني بالسلام عليك . 9. Compulsorily read the section on Madinah in Fazaail e Haj. 10. Recite 1000 times durood shareef daily. 11. Recite 40 durood and Salaam daily. (Take a pocket size one and keep it with you at all times. Every free moment you get, take it out and recite it). 12. Do not engage in any conversations in Musjid e Nabawi (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). Feel the presence of Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam). 13. Read two rakaats shukar Salaah often and thank Allah Ta’ala for bringing you to this mubaarak place. The more we make shukar the more we will be blessed with visiting these mubaarak places. 14. Make the dua of Hadhrat Umar (radiyallahu anhu): “O Allah grant me Martyrdom in Your path and allow my death to take place in the city of Rasulullah (sallallahu alaihi wasallam).” 15. In Madinah make ta’leem of Fazaail e Haj, (section on Madinah). 16. Try and visit Uhud on a Thursday as this is Mustahab. Recite Aayatul Kursi once, Surah Takaasur once and Surah Ikhlaas 11 times and then recite Surah Yaseen and convey the rewards to the martyrs of Uhud. 17. Visit Musjid e Quba on a Saturday, as this is sunnat. It is also sunnah to walk and go. It is advisable to leave immediately after Fajar Salaah (+ 25 minutes walk). 18. Visit Musjid e Fatah on a Wednesday after Zuhr Salaah. It is the experience of our elders that whatever duas are made here after Zuhr on a Wednesday is definitely accepted. 19. Take sadaqah monies to distribute to the poor in Madinah. Most of the cleaners in and out of the Haram are extremely needy. Spend liberally on them. 20. Make at least one khatam of the Qur’aan in Madinah. You will receive the reward of 50 000 khatams. 21. Try and visit Jannatul Baqee every so often, (a good time is after Ishraaq Salaah) and make dua that Allah Ta’ala reserves a place for you in Baqee. Travel Tips 1. Travel as light as possible. 2. Have a shawl with you at all times. 3. Practice wearing your Ihraam at home before you leave for Umrah. 4. Do a practice run of your Umrah / Ziyaarat by some learned Aalim before leaving home. 5. Buy sim card for your cell phone. 6. Carry one set of clothing in your hand luggage. It will come in handy in the event of luggage getting lost. 7. Check if toilet and bed in your hotel room is facing qiblah or not. Many a times the toilets and beds do face the qiblah. Be careful in this regard. 8. Carry a shoe bag to the Haram. 9. Carry an empty 500ml water bottle in your shoe bag. You can fill it up with zam zam every time you go to the Haram to drink in your room. 10. Take a small shoulder bag for the 5 days of Haj. 11. Carry small pebble bag/packet for stones to pick up at Muzdalifa for Rami at Jamaraat. (70 pebbles in total per person) 12. Take sufficient amount of pad-kos only. Do not take extra, because it gets wasted. 13. Carry Hizbul A’zam / Munajaat Maqbul and 40 durood and salaam to recite daily. (Preferably pocket size). 14. ummtaalib
Reminders For The HujjajHere are some beneficial reminders for our brothers and sisters performing Hajj this year…1. Intention: There is a Hadeeth which states, in the latter days, the people will go for hajj but their object will be four. The rulers will go to increase their power, the rich for trade and commerce, the poor for begging and the learned for name and fame. These things can be earned but if Hajj is performed with these objects, no reward is acquired for Hajj. Therefore first and foremost we must rectify and polish upon our intentions.2. Virtues:The prophet (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said, “There is no reward except paradise for an accepted hajj.” He (salallahu alaihi wasalam) also said,“He whose sins are greatest is a person who thinks at Arafah that Allah has not forgiven his sins.”Subhanallah these two Ahadith are sufficient to explain the extensive reward and forgiveness Allah offers a sincere Pilgrim.3. During hajj:-Good deeds: One good deed in Makkah brings 100,000 rewards. As for Madinah, the Prophet (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said, one prayer in my mosque brings rewards one thousand times more than the prayer in other mosques except the mosque of Makkah. This is true in the case of all good deeds done here.-Tawaaf: Rasulullah (salallahu alaihi wasalam) said, “Make much Tawaaf because it is such a great thing that you will find it in your book of deeds on the day of resurrection and for which people will envy you. “-Sins: Sinning in the blessed lands is far more detrimental then sinning elsewhere thus we should remain extra cautious. Hadhrat Ibn Masud (radhiallahu anhu) said, there is no such city except Makkah wherein the people will be punished for niyyat before actions. Then he read this verse, “If a man wishes therein to do extensive oppression, he will be given grievous punishment.” This is only for the Kaabah.-Patience: Bear with pleasure sacrifices of the loss that is caused in the matter of properties or the occurrence of any calamity, because it is a proof of the acceptance of hajj. The troubles and calamities on the way to pilgrimage are like expense in the way of Allah and the expense of a dirham at that time is equal to the expense of 700 dirhams. That is the reward of bearing hardships in the way of jihad.Return:Hadhrat Umar (radhiyallahu anhu) said, a pilgrim is forgiven and also the man for whom he seeks forgiveness in Dhul Hijjah, Muharram, Safar or the first part of Rabiul-awal. Take advantage of such accepted prayers!Signs of acceptance:Last but not least…It is said that if one gives up sins and bad company and takes up good company and gives up the assembly of useless talks and takes to the assemblies of zikr, they are the signs of acceptance of hajj.May Allah accept the Hajj of all the blessed pilgrims and allow them to experience the signs of acceptance immediately upon return. ummtaalib
Spiritual Advice For Hajj (Shaykh Riyadhul Haqq) Allah سبحانه وتعالى says in the Holy Qur’an: "The season of Pilgrimage is the months known; wherefore whosoever ordaineth unto himself the pilgrimage therein, there is no lewdness nor wickedness nor wrangling during the pilgrimage, and whatsoever of good ye do, Allah shall know it. And take provision for the journey, for verily the best provision is abstainment; and fear Me, O men of understanding!" (2:197) In the verse related to Hajj, the need to perform tawaaf (ritual walk around the Holy Ka’ba), sa’ee (ritual walk between the hills of Safa and Marwa), stoning of the shayaateen are not mentioned, rather Allah سبحانه وتعالى mentions the need to abstain from 3 acts : 1. Lewd talkThis means any talk which is rude, indecent, offensive or vulgar. To speak in such a manner violates the sanctity of Hajj. It does not befit a Muslim to speak in a lewd manner – it only suggests a filthy heart and mind. This prohibition during Hajj also includes speaking of conjugal relations between husband and wife which under normal circumstances would be permissible. 2. SinningThis includes any act of disobedience to Allah سبحانه وتعالى especially not lowering one’s gaze. During Hajj, being such a large gathering of men and women, the need to lower one’s gaze becomes all the more important. Not lowering one’s gaze not only destroys the sanctity of Hajj, but one’s attention is diverted from Allah سبحانه وتعالى to the creation. Nothing is achieved by the stray gaze – it is an arrow which only returns to pierce one’s own heart. 3. ArguingThe Hajj journey makes the most patient and forbearing of people irritable because one’s sleeping and eating patterns are disrupted. In such a state and in such a large gathering of people one may be easily provoked and get into an argument. At such times one should exercise patience and self-discipline and remind himself by saying ‘I am in Hajj’ i.e. I am in a sanctified state. These 3 sins reflect the 3 categories of sins a Muslim should avoid throughout his life i.e.• Sins of the tongue• Sins of the flesh• Sins against fellow Muslims During Hajj these 3 sins are especially dangerous yet so easy to commit. If a person engages in any of these there is a great danger that all of the reward for Hajj will be destroyed. As well as fulfilling all the rites and rituals of Hajj, it is necessary to refrain from the above sins for an accepted Hajj. ummtaalib
Oh Travellers To The Haram! (Important Advice For Hajis) By Maulana Muhammad Wali Raazi Oh guests of the Most Merciful! Oh fortunate ones! Oh travelers to the Haram! Congratulations on being invited by the Lord of the worlds! Be glad that He has invited you to His House! Not only that, but He has given you the provisions for travel and lodging. And not only that, but He has also filled your hearts with such love of Him and His House that today you leave your homes, your cities, your countries and embark on this journey solely for the pleasure of your Lord. Had this desire not been there then you would have never planned to undertake this journey. How many a millionaire are there who travel throughout Switzerland, England, America, and so on - who spend their children's vacations over there - but never receive this invitation: Come, visit Our House! Live in Our city! Act according to the Sunnats of Our beloved servants! Run between the hills of Safa and Marwa just as a wife of a prophet and a mother of a prophet did! We love this running of yours. Hurl rocks against Satan just as Our Prophet Ibrahim (alayhi salam) did! Perform sacrifice just as a loyal servant of Ours laid his son and ran the knife over his throat because of Our Command! But we had prohibited the knife from even scratching the throat. Our servant did as he was told and the knife did as it was commanded (i.e. it did not cut); both acted under our command. Those who claim to love Us - We test them to see whether their claim is true. Come here as a devotee: This is Our city and Our House. Come here as a devotee; if you are not a devotee, then take on the appearance of a devotee! Be content in whatever condition We keep you in. Here there are crowds of devotees. You will be pushed and shoved; your hair will fill with dirt and dust, and your feet will tire from walking. Be it pushing or shoving, dirt and dust, or difficulties in Our alleys - Our devotees are proud of such difficulties and consider them as the treasures of their lives. Whoever thinks of these hardships and pains as calamities should not come. He should stay at his home. But those who come as devotees - We will wipe out their sins and return them to their homes as if they were just born today. This is a bathing of bodies and souls rotten and spoiled due to sins - washing these sins will require rubbing. Without rubbing how is cleanliness obtained? Oh travelers to the Haram! Hajj is no small blessing. This is a great act of worship - very different from all the other forms of worship. All sorts of outward and inward worships are combined in this. Money is spent in the path of Allah and great effort is exerted; it is a purification of the soul of the highest degree; it contains spiritual exercises; there is patience and gratitude, love and ma'rifah. It is a witnessing of the favors of the Almighty and of the acceptance of duas. There is both outward and inward closeness. In a hadith, Rasoolullah Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam addressed those performing Hajj and Umrah - and today you are his addressees: Sayyidna Abu Hurairah Radi-Allahu anhu narrates that Rasoolullah Sall-Allahu alayhi wa sallam said: (translation) The travelers of Hajj and Umrah are Allah's special guests; if they supplicate to Allah, He accepts their supplications and if they seek forgiveness, He forgives them. (Hisn-e-Hasin, Ibn Majah and Nasai) Oh travelers to the Haram! Years of spiritual exercise and training may not yield the benefits that can be obtained from this, if only we understand them and have a will to seek them. Oh guests of Allah! I will not discuss with you the merits of Hajj, because if you did not know its merits than you would have never made this blessed intention (to go to Hajj). Neither will I mention its rites and rulings, because you can get all of this from books and training sessions for Hajj. Rather I want to point out something else. You are going to the great Court of the King of kings. When a person is a guest of a king then he learns the manners of the court long before he goes there. Then when he reaches there, he monitors every deed of his making sure that it does not result in disrespect. Oh travelers to the Haram! I wish to share with you an extremely beneficial recipe- one that you will neither find in books nor in lectures. I know that pilgrims are subject to numerous difficulties and hardships. In this journey, there are many trying moments, no, rather many trying hours and days. Sometimes there is the immigration obstacle. There are the difficulties in finding lodging and in getting to the Haram. There are the hardships encountered in Tawaf and Sa'ee. But, my brothers! To achieve any big goal, you must undertake hardships. Those who are mentally prepared for this are the successful ones. The recipe that I am presenting is called "tafweed", which means entrusting your matters, i.e. entrusting your intentions and desires to Allah. The opposite of this is "tajweez" which means relying on your own plans and actions. Tajweez is the root of all of our worries in our normal course of affairs and especially during the journey to Hajj. On the other hand, tafweed results in complete contentment. The person who in his difficulties leaves matters into the hands of Allah finds that Allah shows him ways out of his difficulties. When you reach the court of the King, then entrust your matters to the King. If he makes you sleep on the floor, then sleep happily on the floor. And if he makes you sit on the throne then sit on the throne remembering that you are in the court of the King. He has invited you here to honor you. Never lose sight of the true Beloved for even a blink of the eyeLest the king glance at you with mercy and you be unaware. Many people return from Hajj and tell stories about the unmannerly behavior of the people there and magnify the difficulties they encountered there. One time I received a letter from an old man who said that: while you give people good tidings of Jannah, I went to Hajj but found no trace of the fear of God in the people therein. Then the man mentioned his difficulties in such words and talked about other pilgrims and the Saudi people in such a way that I felt sorrow over the way he mentioned this. We are not going there to have a picnic. When millions of people gather in a city of three or four hundred thousand, then due to the crowd there will be pushing and shoving. The paths will be narrow and difficult. So undertake this journey as an ardent devotee. Whoever is ardent in the love of someone finds enjoyment in the difficulties he encounters on the way and contentment in these worries. -Adapted from an albalagh article. ummtaalib
Dear Hãji Taken from ATTARBIYAH Published by Islamic Tarbiyah Academy MUFTI ZUBAIR DUDHA (Hafizahullah) General advice from the writings of the Ulamã for those who intend to perform Hajj . Actions are judged according to the intention. Therefore one must sincerely intend only to perform Hajj to fulfil the command of Allah Ta’ãla and earn His pleasure. Let there be absolutely no worldly motive in one’s Hajj. To also have some worldly motive together with the intention to perform Hajj is like mixing milk with water. . Before embarking on the journey, repent sincerely for all one’s sins. Perform two Rak’ãts of Salãtul Tawba before leaving the home. Give some Sadaqah (charity) as well. The effect of sincerely repenting before going for Hajj is that one will be blessed with the ability of performing more good actions than one had been doing. . Fulfil all the rights of people and pay all the dues. Seek forgiveness from those who you may have hurt in any way. . Write out your will before leaving. If you owe money to anyone, or if money is owed to you, write it out in full detail. Likewise if any trust property is in your possession, write that as well in full detail. . One unique aspect of Hajj is that it only becomes Fardh once in one’s life. Any subsequent Hajj performed is Nafl. Therefore, one must become well acquainted with all the Masã’il as well as the Sunnah and Mustahab acts before leaving. . The journey of Hajj is a journey undertaken to fulfil the a Fardh Ibãdah. Hence one should be even more careful with the other Farã’idh while going for Hajj. No Salãh should be missed. One should take special care of this especially while travelling. . Leave home happily. Do not leave with any sorrow or grief. The Hajj performed with enthusiasm and love becomes a means of progress in Deen. Similarly, the hardships of the journey should not damper one’s spirit or decrease the zeal for performing Hajj. . Be kind and considerate to your fellow travellers. Help them as much as possible. . The duã of a traveller is accepted. While travelling to the Holy Lands, continuously make duã after every Salãh and at other times for an accepted Hajj for oneself as well as all the other Hajis. . Your time is extremely precious. You have no idea whether you will blessed with this opportunity. Therefore do not waste this precious time in idle talk, etc. Use your time in Tawãf, Tilãwat, Zikr, etc. Increase your recitation of Durood tremendously while in Madinatul Munawwarah. Also set a minimum target for the amount of Tilãwat you will make daily and complete it by all means. At least one Khatam each should be made in the Haram of Makkatul Mukkaramah and Madinatul Munawwarah. . Rewards for good deeds are increased in the holy places of the Haramain. Likewise the sins of evil arte also multiplied. Sayyidinah Umar (RA) is reported to have said: “It is more severe upon me that I commit one sin in Makkah than committing seventy sins outside Makkah.” Hence much more care should be taken to totally refrain from sin. Be particularly careful about protecting the eyes from gazing at strange women. This is an extremely destructive evil. . Sit with much dignity and honour in the Haramain. Never resort to laughing, joking and idle talk in the Haram. Similarly do not pay attention towards the decorations and beauty of the buildings. Rather engage yourself in the Ibãdah (worship) of the Creator of all beauty. . Perform Nafl Tawãfs and Umrahs with the intention of passing the rewards to Rasulullah (Sallallahu alayhi wasallam). The same could be done to one’s relatives etc., especially those who have passed away. . Be kind and soft in your dealings with the people of the Haramain. Never attempt to deceive them nor cause them any difficulty or harm. To do so is to bring destruction upon oneself. . Protect your Hajj from Riya (show and ostentation). Duãs are especially accepted at all the places of MakkatuL Mukkaramah, Madinatul Munawwarah, Mina, Muzdalifa, Arafaat, etc. One should therefore engage excessively in duã for oneself as well as the entire Ummah. . While standing in front of the Rawdah Mubarak (the resting place of Rasulullah (Sallallaahu alayhi wasallam), make a firm intention to return as an ambassador of the mission of Rasulullah (Sallallaahu alayhi wasallam). You will Insha Allah witness the benefit of this. . When you return, do not discuss the difficulties you may have experienced. Keep your gaze fixed on the rewards you will receive and realize that compared to those rewards these difficulties are absolutely nothing. . While still on Hajj and even after returning, perform much Nafl Salãh as Shukr (gratitude) for this great gift.
ummtaalib
Hajj is no insignificant ritual. Rather, it is a great worship which encompasses both physical struggle and sacrifice of wealth. hiba sarwat
One thing I would like to mention that is separate from the rituals and importance of Umrah is the financials. I have recently performed Umrah and like to share with you some amazing truths and facts to know before purchasing tickets and packages. Go for the entire package - dont go for tickets only and try to find the best hotel yourself - very hard since you do not know the terrain Mecca is not flat and many of the roads are uphills and this needs to be known if you are accompanying older people Umrah In Ramadan is too expensive - almost triple the same price Umrah in Rabi Ul Awal is also expensive but not that much as compared during Ramadan Umrah package deals are going fast and you need to keep an eye on the deals Umrah After Hajj is typically a good time to buy since you have the time. after hajj the city is closed for renovation and cleanup and it is best to go after wards. Cheaper pricing. I was able to learn about this through this link (Admin Edit: link removed) - Sorry but advertising is not allowed on the forum budget is really important as well and days need to be calculated accordingly. 5 day Umrah versus 12 days - also the aspect is the shopping so that can become a dent as well - plan accordingly

Aayankhan
At the 1st sight of the holy Kabah, keep your eyes stationary on it and raise your hands to make prayers because the prayers made after sighting the Holy Kabah are never rejected and Gracious Almighty ALLAH rewards those pilgrims traveling to perform Hajj or Umrah their desired wishes instantly. This is a principally favorable, promising time to plead for something.
