May Allah remove our Laziness

Shaykh Zulfiqar Ahmed D.B. says:

"We will be terribly ashamed on the Day of Judgment when the righteous predecessors present worthy deeds in front of Allah. At that time, we will wish that we had enormous number of fasts and recitations of the Holy Quran to present to Allah, had we not been lazy during Ramadan.

If we are lazy and unable to conquer our nafs eleven months out of the year, we should be able to say to Allah that there was one month in which we tried our utmost to worship and win Allah’s favor.

Guidance and advice for the Blessed Month from Hadrat Mawlānā Muhammad Saleem Dhorat hafizahullāh

Precious, Precious Moments

Every moment of our life is very precious, as each second can potentially be used to acquire the pleasure of Allāh ta‘ālā and earn great reward.

However, during Ramadān these moments become even more precious. This is why we should take great care to use the very precious moments of Ramadān wisely.

Overtime in Ramadān

When we have the opportunity to do overtime at work and earn time and a half or double pay, we ensure we do not miss out on the additional income.

In Ramadān, a fard action is worth seventy times its value and a nafl action is worth the same as a fard action on a normal day. Despite the huge increase in rewards, we do not find the zeal to do anything extra for our ākhirah; in stark contrast to our readiness to do overtime for financial gain.

The Blessing of Ramadhaan

Hazrat Shaikh Moulana Muhammad Zakariyya (rahmatullahi ‘alaih) writes:

The mubaarak month of Ramadhaan is a very great blessing and favour of Allah Ta’ala for the Muslims. However, the full blessing of this favour will be reaped by valuing it and appreciating it. Otherwise Ramadhaan will come and go without us gaining anything. (Fazaail-e-A’amaal [urdu], Fazaail-e-Ramadhaan pg. 2)

RAMADHAAN 1438/2017

Message from Mufti Ebrahim Desai (Hafidhahullah)

Alhamdulillah, once again, Allah blessed us with the Month of Ramadhaan.

Value the opportunity and take stock of our lives and make taubah (repent).

Focus on reforming ourselves by becoming more sensitive to our obligations in Deen.

§  Correct our Salaah and perform it with love for Allah.

§  Increase the Tilawat of Qur’aan.

§  Increase our Dhikr of Allah.

§  Keep the heart pure and clean from ill-feelings. A pure heart ascends the heights of spirituality faster.

§  Exert yourself in asking Allah for His forgiveness and emancipation from the fire of Hell.

THURSDAY NIGHT SUMMARY [20th Ramadhan]:

Mufti Ebrahim Desai Saheb explains the virtues of I’tikaaf and presented the inspirational incident of Hazrat Abu Lubabah radhiyallahu Anhu. He chained himself to a pillar of Musjidun Nabawi and vowed not to be unchained until Allah forgave him or he dies in that state.

Mufti Sahib stated we too should have a similar determination like Hazrat Abu Lubabah Radhiyallahu Anhu. Exert ourselves and then hope for forgiveness from Allah.

Building Stamina

Right from the onset of the month of Rajab, we should begin to prepare for Ramadān. By building up slowly over Rajab and Sha‘bān, we will be in peak spiritual condition when Ramadān arrives.

To do this we need to make a programme of ibādah and set daily targets. We then need to fix a timetable so that we are able to achieve those targets. Thereafter targets should be reviewed every week or every fortnight, and gradually increased until Ramadān arrives. Then throughout Ramadān this process should continue.

If we do not set targets and do not fix a timetable early on, we will not be able to progress. Consequently, we will not develop the necessary spiritual stamina required to maintain the level of performance in order to reap the maximum benefit from Ramadān.

Relaxing Before Ramadān

Some people relax for a few days before Ramadān, intending to busy themselves in ‘ibādah once Ramadān begins. Sometimes this relaxed attitude leads them to sin, with a reassuring feeling that they will make tawbah in Ramadān.

Firstly, how do they know they will live to see Ramadān? Secondly, the sin committed may have a negative spiritual impact which may last for the duration of Ramadān, preventing the perpetrator from repenting and doing good deeds, even in the blessed month.

Loyalty

Mufti Ebrahim Salejee (Daamat Barakaatuhu) mentioned:

In this world, different types of temptations are put before us, such as women, wealth, peer pressure, etc. Allah Ta‘ala wants to see our loyalty to Him and our perseverance. This is the test of sabr and this is what Ramadhaan teaches us when we are ordered to resist from permissible temptations in this month. On the other hand, Jannat is a place free from the test of temptations and sabr.

Shortcut to Gaining on Laylatul Qadr

Hazrat Mufti Ebrahim Salejee (Daamat Barakaatuhu) mentioned:

Nowadays we always look for shortcuts and an easy way to get our work done. So what is the shortcut and easy way to gain the maximum on Laylatul Qadr. Two ways come to mind:

1) The night starts from Maghrib (sunset) and ends at subah saadiq. Normally we are still fresh and have control of the time between Maghrib and Esha and by the time taraaweeh is over we are tired. Hence, maximise by doing ‘ibaadat after Maghrib.

2) We are advised in the hadeeth to recite this du‘aa on Laylatul Qadr: “Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun tuhibbul ‘afwa fa’fu ‘anni” (O Allah! You are the One who forgives and You love forgiving. So do forgive me.) Hence, in the intervals between every four rakaats in Taraaweeh Salaah, you can easily recite this du‘aa approximately 10 times.
