‘Preserving your Deeds’ و لا تكونوا كالتي نقضت غزلها من بعد قوة انكاثا “Do not be (foolish) like the woman who shredded her spun yarn to threads after strengthening it.” (She shredded it after all her effort of spinning it) It’s very easy to do deeds, but hard to preserve them. In the above verse Allah mentions a lady who weaves wool all day, but before sunset she breaks it due to which all her efforts have gone to waste. Rasulullah صلي الله عليه و سلم says in one Hadith, that the poor one is the one who will come with many good deeds on the day of judgement; salah, fast, zakah etc but he backbited someone, he cursed someone, he accused someone. Because of this, his good deeds will be given to these victims and when his deeds will no longer remain, their sins will be given to him. Eventually he’ll be thrown in hell. (Muslim) In another Hadith Rasulullah صلي الله عليه و سلم said, stay away from jealousy because it eats up those virtuous deeds you did. In one Hadith, it comes that on the day of judgement a person will see that some deeds are omitted from his record. He will ask Allah the reason. He will be told ‘Because you use to backbite in the world so your deeds were given away’. (How much backbiting do me and you do daily). So it doesn’t just stop their! You don’t do the deed and that’s it! You need to preserve it, capsulate it, protect it. In البحر المحيط under the commentary of, من جاء بالحسنة فله عشر امثالها It’s written that Allah didn’t say who performs a deed, but rather he said who brings forward a deed; which means you do it, preserve it and bring it with you on the day of judgement. We should make a habit to put the ‘Seal’ of Istighfar at the end of performing a deed. 1.Allah says, و بالأسحار هم يستغفرون After spending the whole night in worship, just before fajr (at suhoor) they repent. 2. After the prophet finished his mission of calling towards Islam and he gained victory, Allah said praise me and do istighfar, فسبح بحمد ربك و استغفر After these verses were revealed, the sahaba said that the prophet would abundantly seek forgiveness from Allah. “Perform, Preserve, Protect, Take Forward” Tafseer Raheemi
