  2. Assalamu Alaikum Is it allowed to remove one inch long hair from face which is still growing? Is it normal? Answer: Wassalam. It's normal for that to happen. You can remove it. Either tweeze or wax it. Aalimah Zakiyya Pandor
  3. Question: i wanted to ask u abt the removal of facial hair from a womens face.. U said tht it is advisable that women get rid of their facial hairs, while in Bukhari shareef, there is a hadith contradicting this statement, Plz take a look at this hadith and remove my confusion, Narrated 'Abdullah: Allah has cursed those women who practise tattooing and those who get themselves tattooed, and those who remove their face hairs, and those who create a space between their teeth artificially to look beautiful, and such women as change the features created by Allah. Why then should I not curse those whom the Prophet(SAWW) has cursed? And that is in Allah's Book. i.e. His Saying: 'And what the Apostle gives you take it and what he forbids you abstain (from it).' (59.7)(Volume:7, Book: Dress, Hadith No: 815) - Sahih Bukhari JazakAllah! In the name of Allāh, Most Gracious, Most Merciful Answer: Assalāmu ῾alaykum wa Rahmatullāhi Wabarakātuh ﻋﻦ ﻋﻠﻘﻤﺔ ﻗﺎﻝ ﻟﻌﻦ ﻋﺒﺪ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﺍﻟﻮﺍﺷﻤﺎﺕ ﻭﺍﻟﻤﺘﻨﻤﺼﺎﺕ ﻭﺍﻟﻤﺘﻔﻠﺠﺎﺕ ﻟﻠﺤﺴﻦ ﺍﻟﻤﻐﻴﺮﺍﺕ ﺧﻠﻖ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻓﻘﺎﻟﺖ ﺃﻡ ﻳﻌﻘﻮﺏ ﻣﺎ ﻫﺬﺍ ؟ ﻗﺎﻝ ﻋﺒﺪ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻭﻣﺎ ﻟﻲ ﻻ ﺃﻟﻌﻦ ﻣﻦ ﻟﻌﻦ ﺭﺳﻮﻝ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻭﻓﻲ ﻛﺘﺎﺏ ﺍﻟﻠﻪ ؟ ﻗﺎﻟﺖ ﻭﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻟﻘﺪ ﻗﺮﺃﺕ ﻣﺎ ﺑﻴﻦ ﺍﻟﻠﻮﺣﻴﻦ ﻓﻤﺎ ﻭﺟﺪﺗﻪ ﻗﺎﻝ ﻭﺍﻟﻠﻪ ﻟﺌﻦ ﻗﺮﺃﺗﻴﻪ ﻟﻘﺪ ﻭﺟﺪﺗﻴﻪ } ﻭﻣﺎ ﺁﺗﺎﻛﻢ ﺍﻟﺮﺳﻮﻝ ﻓﺨﺬﻭﻩ ﻭﻣﺎ ﻧﻬﺎﻛﻢ ﻋﻨﻪ ﻓﺎﻧﺘﻬﻮﺍ { – ﺻﺤﻴﺢ ﺍﻟﺒﺨﺎﺭﻱ 7/83 ﺩﺍﺭ ﺍﻟﻔﻜﺮ “Abdullāh cursed those women who practiced tattooing and those who removed hair from their faces and those who created spaces between their teeth artificially to look beautiful, such ladies have changed what Allāh has created. Um Ya'qūb said, "What is that?" 'Abdullāh said, "Why should I not curse those who were cursed by Allāh's Messenger and are referred to in Allāh's Book?" She said to him "By Allāh, I have read the whole Qur'ān but I have not found such a thing. 'Abdullāh said, "By Allāh, if you had read it (carefully) you would have found it. (Allāh says:) 'And what the Prophet gives you, take it and what he forbids you, abstain (from it).” ( Sahīh Al-Bukhārī, Vol.7,Pg.83, Dār al-Fikr) The above Hadeeth refer to those who remove or shape the eyebrows merely for cosmetic reasons. It seems that you have misunderstood the difference between facial hairs and eyebrows. Allamah Nawawi mentions that if a woman has facial hairs which resemble a man, then it is mustahab for her to remove those hairs. 4. I felt the same. Haya is a feeling when you get it you know what it is. I got the feelings and I was trying to escape the feelings as I was guilty of using my name several times. I wanted to know what others feel... Many do, while there still some who don't feel the same. Anyway here's a beautiful reply by Aalimah Zakiyya: Wa alaykum assalam wr wb I deeply apologise for the delay in answer. While it is not a sin. It is just a matter of what is more preferable. It is preferable that you use a pseudoname or nickname or ur kuniyah. This was the practice of the sahaaybiyyat. Also whenever women were mentioned in the Qur'an, they were never mentioned by name. Besides maryam AS. She was only mentioned by name because the people of thebtime never took their wives names so in order to dispel the incorrect belief that Maryam AS was Allah Ta'ala's wife (al'iyazhu billah) her name was taken. And Allaah Ta'ala knows best Aalimah Zakiyya Pandor
  5. Q. Assalamu Alaykum, I heard someone saying that killing mosquitoes is a Sunnah - Is that correct? A. Mufti Ismail Moosa: Wassalam, No, it is baseless.
  6. Q. Me: Assalamu Alaykum, If I didn't make an oath to Allah but made a promise to myself to do something which wasn't obligatory then would there be sin for not fulfilling it? A. Mufti Ismail Moosa: Wassalam, If you *verbally* took the words of oath (promise, qassam, Nadhr etc), then you will have to pay Kaffarah if you do not fulfill it. If you merely thought of an oath, nothing will be binding upon you. And Allah knows best. Q. Me: So there's no sin in breaking the promise that one made to onself. A. Mufti Ismail Moosa: Jee (Yes). Q. Me: If I just mumble and don't make oath to Allah out loud, would there still be kaffara? A. Mufti Ismail Moosa: If you could hear yourself, you will have to give kaffarah.
  7. Question: Assalamu Alaikum, It's a common practice in my family that after the Ghusl of Haidh one must not utter any word and remain silent untill two rakats Nafal prayers are offered as kaffarah. What's the basis for it? Jazakillahu khairan. Answered by Aalimah Zakiyya Pandor: Wassalam, totally baseless, not established from any Hadith, or from any of our predecessors. WALLAHU ALAM

    Kid's Night Terrors

Thanks for your advice, it's helpful, as always - Specifically that part where you mentioned that your son did overcome the fears, Alhamdulillah, I'm hopeful now. Will keep other points in mind too InshaAllah. Yes her mum consulted a doctor. But Sister's in laws are paying more attention to Jharr Phonk, Taweez Ganda, Amil Baba etc. Though I believe in Ruqyah, Manzil and Masnoon duas as honey api Ummi Talib mentioned but not in Amil babas etc. One thing I found out recently that on YouTube while watching cartoons of Dolphins and Spider Man she called them Baw. She knows how to open YouTube but now we don't let her watch these types of videos. Last week when she was at my place, she was just normal, but as soon as I turned off the lights to sleep, she started crying that Baw will come and insisted me to turn it on, so I did, even after being comforted and reassurance that there's no such thing as Baw she continued to fear... then I told her, if Baw comes, to shun them away I'll hit them with her shoe because it hurts them and they're afraid of it"... right after this she suddenly stopped crying and held her both shoes firmly in her hands. Her behavior wondered me, perhaps she was convinced that she can hit them... I think I need to do something like that to shatter her perceived image of Baw to vanish her fears. Though I'm still thinking how should I do that. Ameen to your duas. Keep praying.

    Kid's Night Terrors

Yeah we've tried these things. But I don't think it's the case of Asebi Bandish, Jinnat or Saya etc.
  11. Assalamu Alaykum My niece suddenly wakes up screaming at night. She gets shivers and chills, afraid of dark, bugs, lizard and cat or any other animal she sees at night. I guess she sees frightful dreams, she's still quite young and can't express what she's seeing in her dreams. She just shouts out at a perceived threat, uttering phrases like, "Baw are going to get me!" "Baw" means ghost in her language. Nothing seems to comfort her. We're worried how to break this pattern as this happens almost every night. Have anyone got any experience of this or any suggestions please?
  12. Question: Assalamu Alaykum, I heard a scholar say that we shouldn't do Zikr randomly, e.g. we shouldn't recite Durood or Ayaats with Jalali kalimaat without getting a guidance on how many times these are to be recited, random recitation may have bad effect on our health and daily routing life, a person might get ill by reciting Jalali Kalimat without consult and heavy kalimaat shouldn't be recited excessively - Isn't excessive Zikr is a good thing, then why is there such a restriction? Why would any Zikr that have sacred words can have adverse effects? Please clarify InshaAllah. Jazakallahu khairan Answered by Mufti A.S Desai: Qur’aanic and Sunnah Thikr is never harmful. Non-Sunnah forms of thikr prescribed by the Mashaa-ikh for treating spiritual conditions and spiritual ailments can be harmful if practised excessively. Such prescribed forms of thikr should not be undertaken without the guidance of a qualified Shaikh. Permanent Thikr is commanded by the Qur’aan and Ahaadith. That is, while walking, sitting, working and in all states, keep the tongue fresh with Allah’s Name – any Name, especially the Kalimah, La ilaha il lal laah. Durood, Istighfaar, Tasbeeh and the first Kalimah should be recited abundantly. However, recite these without the non-Sunnah methods, e.g. shaking the head or heavy breathing when making thikr. Was-salaam Answered by Mufti Ismail Moosa: Wassalam, Basically, to do any Dhikr in moderation is fine. Moderation would mean: the amount of times mentioned in the Ahadith. For example, there is mention about 100 times Istighfaar, 100 times reciting the first Kalimah etc. So if anyone recites these, there will not be any problem. However, to the Kalimah 75 000 times daily etc could affect a person. The problem is not with the Kalimah, rather it is due to out weakness. Just as Allah mentions: "Inna aradhnal amaanata alas samaai...." and "Lo anzalna hadhal Quraana...". Thus, for those excessive amounts, a person should get guidance and how to start gradually to reach such large amounts. If they are not very excessive, they won't have adverse effects. Some Mashaikh give numbers just so that you can do it in an orderly manner, doing the same amount everyday. Otherwise, one day a person will do 70 000, next day 1000, next day 25 000 etc. There is no problem in fixing a number. Just like how some Ulama specify the amount of Quraan they read, some specify the amount of Rakats etc. And Allah knows best.
  13. Question: Assalamu Alaykum Does Islam justify honour killing of a woman like Qandeel Bloch, who used to share her vulgar Images and videos on social media? What could possibly be the punishment for the actions like hers? Answered by Mufti Ismail Moosa: Wassalam, No, such killings are not permissible. In an Islamic state, the government can precribe either jail, community service etc. or upto maximum 39 lashes for such actions. And Allah knows best.
  14. Question: Assalamu Alaikum Is it allowed for a Sister to discuss matters related to studies with na-mahram teacher via text message? The conversation if isn't not kept public, would be regarded as khalwah or not? Answer: ASSALAMU ALAIKUM 7 Sha’baan 1436 (26 May 2015) If the discussion via the computer is strictly formal and necessary, then it will be permissible. Furthermore, if the teacher is a faasiq, then even such discussion with him will be haraam. It will be haraam to take lessons from him. Also, if the teacher is a young Maulana, then too it will not be permissible. It will be haraam khalwat with a male. And, if it is a maulana who appears on facebook, then the evil is worse. It will be immoral. Was-salaam A.S.Desai For Mujlisul Ulama of S.A
  15. Question Assalaamu alaykum. In Sahih Muslim there is a Hadith in which we are told to kill lizards (gecko). what kind of lizard is this. are we allowed to kill only this kind of lizard or any lizard. Shukran Answer This Hadith appears in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim (Sahih Bukhari, Hadith: 1831, Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 5803) The Arabic word used in the Hadith is وزغ (wazagh). The Muhaddithun have offered various different descriptions of this creature. Among them are: 1) ‘A harmful reptile’. 2) ‘A reptile that has legs which runs around at the roots of grass’. 3) ‘A reptile that drinks milk from the udders of a camel’. 4) ‘A reptile that lives on walls and roofs, has a voice and cries out or screeches out’. (Sharhun Nawawi ‘ala Sahih Muslim, Hadith: 5803, Umdatul Qari, Hadith: 1831, ‘Awnul M’abud, Hadith: 5253, Majma’u Biharil Anwar, vol. 5 pg. 48) Gauging from the above explanations it seems as though this type of lizard is bigger than the usual household lizard. For a ruling on the permissibility of killing other types of lizards kindly refer to your local Mufti or Darul Ifta. And Allah Ta’ala knows best http://hadithanswers.com/hadith-on-killing-lizards/
  16. [8:26PM, 7/11/2016] Inquirer: Is killing a lizard a good deed? [8:59PM, 7/11/2016] Mufti Ismail Moosa: Nope, just permissible. [9:06PM, 7/11/2016] Inquirer: Jazakallah, but here's a confusion as the following fatwa says otherwise, what would you say about that Sir? "Q: I have heard that if one kills a lizard one will get reward. Is this true? A:Yes this is true. In fact it comes in the hadith that if you kill it with one strike you will get the most reward, with two strikes you will get a lesser reward and with three strikes you will get an even lesser reward." islamqa.org [9:09PM, 7/11/2016] Mufti Ismail Moosa: The Hadith uses the word Wazagh. It's not the normal lizard. [9:11PM, 7/11/2016] Inquirer: Jazakallahu khairan. Could you be more specific what kind of lizard? [9:17PM, 7/11/2016] Mufti Ismail Moosa: It's hard to explain over WhatsApp. You will check it in Middle Eastern countries. It drinks milk directly from the udders of camels.
  17. Question: [10:16AM, 7/11/2016] Questioner: Assalamu Alaykum, I heard older people say, 'after killing a lizard you've to take a ghusul'. Does it has any basis in the shar'iah? Jazakallahu khair! Answer: [11:50AM, 7/11/2016] Mufti Ismail Moosa: wassalam, Nope, there is no need for Ghusl. It is baseless. And Allah knows best.
  18. Don't know why i feel it was different. But I must be wrong and that's just a feeling. Thanks anyway.
  19. Salaam, I've a feeling there used to be a section for baseless and ridiculous beliefs, but I no longer see it?
  20. Question: Assalamu Alaykum, In our kitchen there are large number of Ants, they contaminate they food, it's difficult for us to bear with them since they spread everywhere and make things difficult for us, so would it be allowed to kill them by using the spray? Jazakallah khair! Answer: ASSAALMU ALAIKUM 10 Ramadhaan 1437 (16 June 2016) If there is absolutely no way of driving the ants away, then the spray may be used. Was-salaam A.S.Desai Mujlisul Ulama of S.A
  21. Don't accept it even prior to marriage? Then their proposal shouldn't be accepted at all.
  22. Shouldn't this thread be moved to "Hanafi Fiqh (women)" section?
  23. The only non-mahram person in my sister's house is her brother in law. According to her husband and mother-in-law it's more important to socialize with relatives than doing niqab. If they want they can easily get a separate accommodation but they think that family ties, unity and love can get weakened by it. I think it must be included in prenuptial agreement that wife shouldn't be restricted from maintaining shar'i hijab and niqab. Yes most of the times my younger brothers take the food to the guests when my mum isn't well enough to do it, but when they're busy outdoors then the problem starts. But I'll try... I've one more question, what should we do in family parties or different family occasions? Not attend them simply? But, what if sometimes we're forced to attend them? Yes that's true. Some of my relatives think that I'm arrogant and I don't have manners. Even some of them assume that I consider that they have a evil character, while I just try to maintain hijab. But I really don't care whatever non-religious people think of me.
  24. api I know its necessary to cover the face, and I also know its importance. What I was trying to say, Its not always possible to cover the face, e.g. my Sister lives with her in laws, they live in the same house, have a same dinning room, so how it is possible for her to do niqab? It's possible only if her husband supports her, her in laws pretend to be religious but as per them there's no niqab in front of relatives. Plus, in my home everyone (aside from my brothers) thinks the same i.e. no niqab in front of relatives, so when non-mahram relatives come to stay, seriously I found it hard. I did think it maybe my lack of Iman. Nonetheless, I'm wiling to try to change Q: I try my best to not come in front of non-mahram relatives but when my mum is ill, I have to serve them something to eat cos she can't... not sit there but just say salaam and serve them and leave the room, so will I be sinning if I don't do niqab in that situation? If it's not asking too much then I'd also like to know what you do in such situations, if you don't feel comfortable sharing your experience here, then via email?
  25. If one is willing to do hijab then I think it's very easy to follow the five rules of hijab, but on many occasions it becomes hard to do niqab in front of non-mahram relatives, I always wondered if we will be sinful for exposing face in such cases. But Alhamdulillah it seems from the post that it's not sinful.
