  1. Ameen to du'aas. May Allah Ta'aala accept, ameen.
  2. Well thought out analysis though... insha'Allah she'll right more and insha'Allah we can encourage her to write about the issue from an Islamic standpoint too - compare and contrast. ~~~ When my great-grandfather was off at war in Yemen (for 20 years!) my great-grandmother was in charge of everything and everyone. I have yet to hear a story about her from the period of time when she was on her own where she forced her will and wishes on others. She was a very practical, Allah fearing woman. There are, however, stories about her after her husband returned where her views on certain subjects would be sought and she would defer to her husband stating it is not a matter for her to comment on or decide - as if she never dealt with any such matters before. SubhanAllah, now THAT to me is true leadership masha'Allah. May Allah Ta'aala forgive their sins and grant them elevated stations in Jannah. Ameen.
  3. Masha'Allah, it is well written. It is concise and contains just the right dose of examples. I didn't get a sense of pent-up anger at all though, sorry... that would defeat the argument right?
  4. DU’AA OF PROPHET MUSA (A.S.) Wa yassir lii amrii. Wah-lul ‘uqdatam min lisaanii. Yafqahuu qawlii. (20:25-28) My Lord, open up my heart for me, make my task easy for me, and loose a knot from my tongue so they may understand my speech. ~~~Ameen~~~ This was the du’aa of Prophet Musa (a.s.) when he was commanded to go to the Pharaoh and deliver the message of Allah to the tyrant. (Source: Khalid Baig’s commentary to du’aa #20 in the Accepted Whispers: Munajat-e-Maqbul) Oh Allah, forgive the sins of the Ummah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallem) strengthen our imaan and grant us ease in our affairs, understanding of Your commands, kindness and humility in our dealings, and strength in our families and youth. Ameen.
  5. DU’AA FOR GUIDANCE AND MERCY (18:10) Our Lord, grant us mercy from Your presence and provide us with guidance in our affair. ~~~Ameen~~~ When there seems to be no way out we turn to Allah Ta’aala for both mercy and guidance. This du’aa was made by the young men who sought refuge from persecution in a cave. Their story is related in Surah Al-Kahf. Reports differ on whether these men were the followers of Sayyidnaa ‘Isa (Jesus) (a.s.) or another prophet. In either case, they refused to submit to a tyrant who was forcing paganism on his subjects. They left behind everything as they took refuge in a cave to safeguard their imaan. And in doing so, they set an example for the youth today to follow. (Source: Khalid Baig’s commentary to du’aa #19 in the Accepted Whispers: Munajat-e-Maqbul) Oh Allah, forgive the sins of the Ummah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallem), grant us guidance, understanding, and strength, and safeguard our imaan. Ameen. Oh Allah, make it easy for the youth of the Ummah to be repelled by the fitnah and evil around them, make it easy for them to choose that which is most pleasing to You, and to keep their imaan safe by Your permission, mercy and guidance. Ameen.
  6. DU’AA – BENEFICIAL FOR ALL OBJECTIVES AND PURPOSES (17:80) My Lord, make me enter through a rightful entrance and leave by a rightful exit and grant me supporting authority from Your presence. ~~~Ameen~~~ Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wa sallem) was taught this du’aa when he was commanded to migrate from Makkah to Madinah. He had been surrounded by the Makkan pagan leaders intent to kill him and he had no visible means of defense, yet Allah Ta’aala shielded him and provided for him a safe exit. Similarly, Madinah was a difficult city to live in because of its weather. Yet, Allah Ta’aala changed it into a very pleasant city, which it has been ever since. Some ‘ulama have stated that this du’aa is beneficial for all objectives and purposes. (Source: Khalid Baig’s commentary to du’aa #18 in the Accepted Whispers: Munajat-e-Maqbul) Oh Allah, forgive the sins of the Ummah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallem), grant us ease in our affairs, grant us understanding, grant us barakah in all that is good and pleasing to You (including: kindness, compassion, mercy, and humility), grant that our last deed be our best and grant us a death on imaan and a place in the highest Jannah. Ameen.
  7. DU'AA FOR OUR PARENTS Rabbir-hamhumaa kamaa rabbayaanii saghiira. (17:24) My Lord, show them (my parents) mercy just as they cared for me when I was a little child. ~~~Ameen~~~ This du'aa comes in the Qur'an immediately after the verse that tells us that deference to parents is the second most important obligation of a believer after the obligation to worship Allah Ta'aala alone. That placement in addition to the fact that Allah Ta'aala Himself is teaching us how to supplicate for our parents should tell us the value of this du'aa. That also raises our hopes regarding the acceptance of this du'aa when made sincerely. Needless to say, it is an important parenting goal for Muslim parents to raise such children who will make this du'aa for them in their life and after their death. (Source: Khalid Baig’s commentary to du’aa #17 in the Accepted Whispers: Munajat-e-Maqbul)
  8. I believe she meant women who wear hijaab as opposed to niqaab.
  9. Insha'Allah don't forget to read Surah Kahf.
  10. Assalaamualaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu sis: SubhanAllah, as I was waving good-bye you were waving hello :) Ajeeb but I haven't had to consult an alimah (for myself) yet. Alhamdulillah, if I need to in the future, insha'Allah I can find someone reliable. I am not familiar with the female instructors at Zamzam Academy... don't know if they can answer fiqh questions via e-mail... ask them insha'Allah.
  11. Alhamdulillah, I deleted (or maybe it was a deactivation... can't recall exactly) my personal FB account ~ 2 yrs ago & haven't looked back. @Sis Haya: you should be able to change your WizIQ and sribed accounts to unlink them from FB & link them to your email address instead.
  12. DU’AA FOR PARENTS: GUIDANCE AND/OR FORGIVENESS (14:41) Our Lord, forgive me and my parents and all believers on the day when the Reckoning will be set up. ~~~Ameen~~~ Sayyidna Ibrahim (a.s.) initially made this du’aa for his father, but later stopped it. The Qur’an says: “And the du’aa of Ibrahim for the forgiveness of his father was but due to a promise he had made to him. Later when it became clear to him that he was an enemy of Allah, he withdrew himself from him” (At-Tawbah, 9:114). A Muslim should pray for his non-Muslim parents in their life for their guidance. But it is not permissible to pray for he maghfirah (forgiveness) of anyone who dies in a state of unbelief. (Source: Khalid Baig’s commentary to du’aa #16 in the Accepted Whispers: Munajat-e-Maqbul) Ya Allah, forgive the sins of the Ummah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallem), grant us compassion, mercy, kindness and humility, and increase us in beneficial knowledge and grant us understanding and the ability to do amal on the beneficial knowledge You bestow on us. Ameen.
  13. DU’AA FOR OUR CHILDREN Rabbanaa wa taqabbal du’aa’. (14:40) My Lord, make me and my offspring establish salaat. Our Lord, accept my supplication. ~~~Ameen~~~ This was the du’aa of Sayyidna Ibrahim (Abraham) (a.s.). His concern for the salaat of his children should set an example for us. We should provide proper Islamic education and training to our children. At the same time we should be praying for their steadfastness in Islamic practices. (Source: Khalid Baig’s commentary to du’aa #15 in the Accepted Whispers: Munajat-e-Maqbul)
  14. Du'aa For Death as a Muslim and Companionship of the Pious (12:101) O the Creator of the heavens and the earth, You are my Protector in this world and in the Hereafter. Make me die a Muslim and unite me with the righteous. ~~~Ameen~~~ This was the du'aa of Sayyidnaa Yusuf (Joseph) (a.s.) after he had been united with his parents and brothers. At the height of his worldly power his concern was still with dying as a Muslim and getting the company of the pious. (Source: Khalid Baig’s commentary to du’aa #14 in the Accepted Whispers: Munajat-e-Maqbul) Oh Allah, when we are at our lowest and when we are at our highest, protect us from loss of that which matters the most - Your pleasure and Your love. Ameen. Oh the Most Merciful of those who show mercy, shower Your Mercy on us, forgive us, strengthen us, grant us iman, ihsan and ikhlas, a death on iman, and the companionship of the pious - both here and in the hereafter. Ameen.
  15. Du'aa of the Israelites against persecution by the Pharaoh Rabbanaa laa taj'alnaa fitnatan lil-qawmiz-zaalimiin(a). Wa najjinaa birahmatika minal-qawmil-kaafiriin. (10:85-86) Our Lord, do not turn us into a victim of the unjust people and save us through Your mercy from the disbelieving people. ~~~Ameen~~~ This was the du'aa of the Israelites against persecution by the Pharaoh. (Source: Khalid Baig’s commentary to du’aa #13 in the Accepted Whispers: Munajat-e-Maqbul) Ya Allah, we seek your protection (especially for our Palestinian brothers and sisters) from persecution by the Israelis and disbelieving people. Ya Allah, safeguard us and do not let us become the oppressor after having tasted oppression, as others before us have done. Alhamdulillah for granting us understanding and an opportunity to seek Your help - You are our Protector. Ya Allah, forgive the sins of the Ummah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallem), and deliver us from the oppression of others and from the oppression we place on ourselves, and save us from becoming oppressors. Ya Allah, accept our du'aas despite all errors and deficiencies. Ameen.
  16. Insha'Allah, to raise awareness, general information on the topic of inheritance in Islam has been compiled under this thread. For specific information on shares received by heirs, it is imperative that we consult scholars with well-founded knowledge in the area of Islamic inheritance. For this purpose, articles and fataawa that deal with specifics have been excluded and those who wish to learn more are strongly encouraged to consult learned scholars.
Anta waliyyunaa fagh-fir lanaa war-hamnaa, wa anta Khayrul-ghaafiriin (7:155) You are our Protector. So forgive us and show us mercy, for You are the best of those who forgive. ~~~Ameen~~~ This was the du'aa of Sayyidna Musa (Moses) (a.s.), when seventy Jewish leaders who accompanied him to Mount Sinai were punished because of their iniquity. (Source: Khalid Baig’s commentary to du’aa #12 in the Accepted Whispers: Munajat-e-Maqbul) Ya Allah, forgive the sins of the Ummah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallem), grant that we are not of those who are iniquitous, and grant us protection from those who are iniquitous; strengthen us, ease our hardships and grant us victory over the oppressors and disbelieving people. Ameen.
  18. Du'aa To Allah Ta'aala In Response To Worldly Powers Over Our Faith Rabbanaa afrigh 'alaynaa sabraan wa tawaffanaa Muslimiin. (7:126) Our Lord, pour out patience over us and make us die as Muslims. ~~~Ameen~~~ This was the du'aa of the magicians of the court of the Pharaoh after they declared faith and were threatened by a furious Pharaoh with severe torture over this defiance. This is the response of the believers to the threats of dire consequences by worldly powers over their faith. (Source: Khalid Baig’s commentary to du’aa #11 in the Accepted Whispers: Munajat-e-Maqbul) Ya Allah, accept this du’aa from the Ummah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallem), strengthen us, ease our hardships and grant us victory over the oppressors and disbelieving people. Ameen.
  19. Du'aa taught to Adam (a.s.) رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ Rabbanaa zalamnaa afusanaa wa in lam taghfir lanaa wa tarhamnaa lanakuunanna minal-khaasiriin. (7:23) Our Lord, we have wronged our souls. And if You do not forgive us and grant us mercy, we shall certainly be among the losers. ~~~Ameen~~~ This du'aa was taught by Allah Ta'aala to Sayyidnaa Adam (a.s.). The Qur'aan says: "Then Adam learned certain words (of du'aa) from his Lord; so Allah accepted his repentance" (Al-Baqarah, 2:37). (Source: Khalid Baig’s commentary to du’aa #10 in the Accepted Whispers: Munajat-e-Maqbul) Ya Allah, accept this du’aa from the Ummah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallem), ease our hardships and grant us victory over the oppressors and disbelieving people. Ameen.
  20. Du'aas To Reflect On رَبَّنَا مَا خَلَقْتَ هَٰذَا بَاطِلًا سُبْحَانَكَ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ مَن تُدْخِلِ النَّارَ فَقَدْ أَخْزَيْتَهُ وَمَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ مِنْ أَنصَارٍ رَّبَّنَا إِنَّنَا سَمِعْنَا مُنَادِيًا يُنَادِي لِلْإِيمَانِ أَنْ آمِنُوا بِرَبِّكُمْ فَآمَنَّا رَبَّنَا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَكَفِّرْ عَنَّاسَيِّئَاتِنَا وَتَوَفَّنَا مَعَ الْأَبْرَارِ رَبَّنَا وَآتِنَا مَا وَعَدتَّنَا عَلَىٰ رُسُلِكَ وَلَا تُخْزِنَا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ إِنَّكَ لَا تُخْلِفُ الْمِيعَادَ Allatheena yathkuroona Allaha qiyaman waquAAoodan waAAala junoobihim wayatafakkaroona fee khalqi alssamawati waal-ardi rabbana ma khalaqta hatha batilan subhanaka faqinaAAathaba alnnari Rabbana innaka man tudkhili alnnara faqad akhzaytahu wama lilththalimeena min ansarin Rabbana innana samiAAna munadiyan yunadee lil-eemani an aminoo birabbikum faamannarabbana faighfir lana thunoobana wakaffir AAanna sayyi-atina watawaffana maAAa al-abrari Rabbana waatina ma waAAadtana AAala rusulika wala tukhzina yawma alqiyamati innaka latukhlifu almeeAAada (duaas from 3:191-194) (6) Our Lord, You have not created all this in vain! Glory be to You; sheild us then from the punishment of the Fire. (7) Our Lord, surely whomesoever You sentence to the Fire, You have disgraced him indeed. And for wrongdoers there will be no supporters. (8) Our Lord, surely we heard a caller calling to the faith, saying: believe in your Lord. And we believed. Our Lord, forgive us therefore our sins, and blot out from us our evil deeds, and in death join us with the righteous. (9) Our Lord, grant us what You have promised to us through Your messengers, and do not disgrace us on the Day of Judgment; surely You never break Your promise. ~~~Ameen~~~ These beautiful du'aas are of the really wise persons, as described by the Qur'an. They are the ones who reflect on the creation of the heavens and the earth and in the alternation of the day and night, and this reflection leads them to the belief in the Creator and a deep concern for their accountability before Him. The Prophet (sallallahu alayhi wa sallem) said: "Ruined is the person who recited these verses but failed to reflect therein." The reference to Allah Ta'aala never breaking His promise is not meant to reassure themselves of this fact. Rather it implies the plea that Allah Ta'aala enable them to become deserving of that promise. (Source: Khalid Baig’s commentary to du’aas #6-9 in the Accepted Whispers: Munajat-e-Maqbul) May Allah Ta’aala grant the members of the Ummah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallem) understanding, the ability to reflect on His words, and may He enable us to become deserving of His promise. Ameen.
  21. Shattering the glass vessels of the Nabi صلى الله عليه وسلم By سليمان الكندي (Sulayman al-Kindi) on January 25, 2012 ميروى عن أنس أنه قال .. فقال له النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم رويدك يا أنجشة لا تكسر القوارير “ ” Anas رضي الله عنه narrated that the Nabi صلى الله عليه وسلم had a camel driver with a good voice called Anjashah رضي الله عنه. The Nabi صلى الله عليه وسلم said to him, “Careful, O Anjashah, do not break the glass vessels.” [Muslim] Anjashah رضي الله عنه encouraged the camels by means of his voice. As they were going too fast, Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم told him to be mindful of the women who were riding the camels, lest they fall and hurt themselves. A few short words, which reveal volumes of the beautiful personality of Rasulullah His concern for others, especially weak ones is well known, but look at his choice of words, “qawaareer – glass vessels.” Indeed, a sophisticated and subtle personality who was not only the means of giving women dignity in this world, but even his mode of address is so refined and gentle. Women are the delicate glass vessels of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم who should not be broken. Yet the sad reality of today is that the delicate glass vessels of this Ummah are most savagely being shattered without any scruple. Mercy might more probably found in the jungle than in that blood-pumping organ certain two-legged beasts dare call their heart. If one were to mention that thousands of our mothers, sisters and daughters are being violated contrary to any civilised norm, the usual Muslim reaction would be to point fingers at Serbs, Hindus, Jews… the usual perpetrators. The sadder reality is that that gang is not limited to Kuffar, but includes those who are supposed to be Muslim. “Honour” killings is a reality in Muslim lands and whoever has any sense of decency cannot bury his head in the sand any longer. When faced with articles such as this by Robert Fisk Muslims tend to go into denial, similar to what I mentioned in my article on animal rights, and blame everything on a ubiquitous Jewish conspiracy. That the Jews control a media which is against Islam is a fact besides the point. The point is to fix what we are responsible for – the treatment of our women. Ignoring our responsibilities and only focussing on what cannot be immediately changed (such as Jewish control of the media) is nothing but Satanic deception. A basic principle of life is that a problem cannot be fixed unless it is first acknowledged. We are riddled with so many problems which never get resolved simply because we cannot admit it. Again, our “honour” is at stake. Yet does the Quraan not state that all honour belongs to Allah? How can it be that Muslims stoop to shattering the glass vessels of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم upon perceived slights to their honour, when even if an actual crime had taken place, Islam teaches us a proper code of conduct including the Hadith, “Legal penalties are dropped at the slightest doubt.”? What kind of two legged beasts walk amongst the ranks of the Muslims who sentence a glass vessel of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم to be gang raped! Serbs did not perpetrate this incident, nor did Jews or Hindus. I cannot but imagine how Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم would weep if he knew of male members of his Ummah are the ones shattering his glass vessels so bestially. To add further disgust to this horror, why is it that Muslim countries, organisations and leaders are so silent? Is funding and popularity of higher precedence than the pleasure of Allah or even basic humanity which Kuffar can also feel? Hajjaj bin Yusuf was perhaps the greatest tyrant in the history of Islam. Yet he despatched an entire army from Iraq when Indians captured a glass vessel of Rasulullah He had some decency in him, some redeeming quality which he can present when his Accounting is taken. On the other end of the Islamic world, the greed and selfish ambition of al-Haajib al-Masur were the seeds which caused the collapse of al-Andalus (Muslim Iberia) and by extension eventually the colonial nightmare Islam has suffered. Yet he too threatened the Christian north with his armies upon hearing of the capture of one glass vessel of Rasulullah It is well within the realm of possibility that Allah forgives him based just on this one deed. The question is, what is our redeeming quality if questioned that through our silence, we too shattered the glass vessels of Rasulullah Ride faster if you will, O Anjashah, the glasses have already shattered.
  22. Du'aa Invoking the Most Valuable Treasure of a Believer: Iman رَبَّنَا إِنَّنَا آمَنَّا فَاغْفِرْ لَنَا ذُنُوبَنَا وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ Rabbanaa innanaa aamannaa fagh-fir lanaa dhunuubanaa wa qinaa 'adhaaban-naar (3:16) Our Lord, surely we have believed, so forgive us our sins and shield us from the punishment of the Fire. Ameen The verses before and after the one containing this du'aa characterize the people making this du'aa as the ones who fear Allah; are patient, truthful, devout, and charitable; and who seek forgiveness in the pre-dawn hours. Yet by invoking solely their iman here as the basis of forgiveness they affirm that this is the most valuable treasure of a believer. (Source: Khalid Baig’s commentary to du’aa #5 in the Accepted Whispers: Munajat-e-Maqbul) May Allah Ta'aala grant the members of the Ummah of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallem) such noble characteristics, accept our du'aas despite errors and deficiencies, and grant us forgiveness. Ameen.
  23. Du'aa Of Those Firmly Grounded in Knowledge Innaka Antal-Wahhaab.(3:8) Our Lord, do not let our hearts falter after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from Your presence. Surely You are the most generous Grantor. ~~~Ameen~~~ As the previous verse of this surah states, this is the du'aa of those who are firmly grounded in knowledge. They never become complacent with their iman (faith), being fully aware that one's iman is one's most precious treasure and needs to be carefully guarded. Further, we cannot guarantee its protection; we must turn to Allah to seek His help in doing so. Needless to say, it is unimaginable that anyone consciously making this du'aa will knowingly engage in such enterprises as may pose danger to his iman. (Source: Khalid Baig’s commentary to du’aa #4 in the Accepted Whispers: Munajat-e-Maqbul) Oh Allah, grant us beneficial knowledge; ground us in Your knowledge, in Your love, and the love of Rasulullah (sallallahu alayhi wa sallem) and his sunnahs; unify us in Your love and keep us unified in Your love; safeguard our imaan and grant us steadfastness; and accept our du'aas despite errors and deficiencies. Ameen.
