  4. At least six Palestinian prisoners escaped from a high-security Israeli prison overnight, with regime troops launching a manhunt to arrest them, media reports said on Monday. Five of them belong to the Palestinian resistance movement Islamic Jihad, hailing from towns near the occupied northern West Bank city of Jenin. They have been identified as Munadil Nafayat, 26, from Yaabad; Mahmoud and Mohammad al-Arida, both from Arraba; Iham Kahamji, 35, from Kufr Dan; and Yaqoub Qadiri, 49, from Deir al-Basha. The other prisoner has been identified as Zakaria Zubeidi, a former commander of Fatah's al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades in Jenin. The cellmates, serving life sentences, are believed to have fled through an underground tunnel from the Gilbao Prison in northern Israel, which they had managed to dig over the past few months. The inmates apparently coordinated with aides outside the prison using a smuggled cellphone and had an escape car waiting for them at around 1:30 am. “Six prisoners escaped by means of an opening that was discovered in their cell,” a statement from the prisons authority said. Gilbao Prison is one of the highly-fortified detention centers in Israel. An official from the Israel Prison Service described the breach as "a major security and intelligence failure." He said Israeli forces have launched a massive search and believe they might try to reach the occupied West Bank or the Jordanian border. Many roadblocks have been set up in the West Bank in a bid to stop the prisoners from escaping into Jordan, and a large contingent of police personnel, Shin Bet sleuths have swung into action. Reports said the Israel Prison Service was preparing to evacuate the remaining 400 prisoners and disperse them among other prisons in order to probe the escape of Palestinian prisoners. In a statement released shortly after the incident, the Islamic Jihad called the escape "heroic" and said it will “shock the Israeli defense system.” Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum said, “The escape proves the bravery of these prisoners, achieving freedom despite such strict security measures. It's a heroic and impressive action.” Celebratory gunfire was reported in Jenin following reports of the prison break by Palestinian inmates. Source

  11. Whitethread Institute Whitethread Institute was founded with the primarily intention of catering for Muslim scholars, the ‘alims and ‘alimas who are the leaders of our community. Our estimate is that we have at least 500 ‘alims and ‘alimas just around the London area. There are many more who graduate each year from seminaries and universities around the United Kingdom and abroad. Many scholars find themselves doing involuntary bukhl (miserliness) with their knowledge because they have not yet unlocked their full potential. After several years of study they could possess vast amounts of knowledge. However, in the constantly changing world it is important to continue and update this knowledge, develop new experiences and learn better ways to impart and apply their wisdom to the masses. Alhamdulillah, there are many madrasas and seminaries, both local, national and international, but not many in the UK that provide post-graduate courses and advanced Islamic learning. For our scholars to keep abreast of contemporary challenges and remain relevant, a number of enhancement courses are necessary. Whitethread Institute has been founded with this purpose in mind. Our aim is that every scholar should become relevant. Every scholar should maximise his or her potential. Every scholar should be able to give something back to the community. We want to help ‘ulama discover their calling, whether it be for leading a community, youth work, providing adult education, teaching the next generation of leaders, or furthering Islamic academic studies.
  12. Life in occupied Palestine continues.... Israeli soldiers invaded, Sunday, two Palestinian schools in the al-Khader town, south of Bethlehem, in the occupied West Bank, and fired gas bombs. Local nonviolent activist, Ahmad Salah, stated that several army vehicles invaded the town before the soldiers surrounded two schools; one for girls and one for boys, and fired gas at them and surrounding areas. Salah added that the soldiers also invaded the two schools, in the Old City of al-Khader, causing anxiety attacks among the children. One of the schools had to shut down, and its administration sent the children to their homes in fear of further Israeli violations. On Sunday at dawn, Illegal Israeli colonizers caused considerable damage to several Palestinian cars in the Jaber neighborhood, near the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron city, in the southern part of the occupied West Bank. On Saturday at night, the soldiers shot a young Palestinian man in Husan village, west of Bethlehem. Furthermore, the army fired several missiles into areas in Gaza City and Beit Hanoun, in the besieged Gaza Strip, causing damage. On Saturday evening, the Israeli army injured eleven Palestinians, including three who suffered moderate wounds, during protests near the perimeter fence, east of Gaza city, in the besieged coastal region. Dozens of residents, including journalists, suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation. On Saturday at dawn, Palestinian Medical sources in Gaza have confirmed that a child, identified as Omar Hasan Abu an-Neel, 12, died from serious wounds he suffered a week earlier after Israeli soldiers shot and seriously wounded him, in the eastern part of the coastal region. 13. Israeli Army Prevents Farmers From Working On Their lands Near Salfit The Israeli army forced, Sunday, many Palestinian farmers to stop rehabilitation work on their agricultural lands near the main road leading to Qarawat Bani Hassan Village, west of Salfit in central West Bank, and tried to confiscate their equipment. Ibrahim ‘Aassi, the head of Qarawat Bani Hassan Village Council, said many Palestinians were working on their lands, and rehabilitating them when the soldiers invaded the area and stopped them. He added that the soldiers threatened to confiscate the agricultural equipment used by the Palestinians if they do not leave their lands. The army said the lands are in Area C of the occupied West Bank and claimed that the Palestinians cannot work on them. It is worth mentioning that the lands in that area are owned by fifteen Palestinians, who try to farm them, rehabilitate them, and build hothouses and storage rooms, but are subject to constant Israeli violations.
